From Chaos to Calm – The inner shift of conscious breathing

One would think that the journey from chaos to calm would be an arduous and tortuous process. The mind would do a few somersaults at the very thought of it. That’s because, our mind is a box which is cluttered with unwanted and harmful things like fear, anger, grudges, hatred, jealousy etc. all colliding with each other, leaving little or no space for joy, gratitude, happiness and peace.

Our rishis and sages are always depicted as sitting quietly on mountains or under trees contemplating on things within themselves and without.

They are the ones who developed techniques of keeping a tight rein on the mind. They delved deep into themselves in the pursuit of self- knowledge and also to discover their connection with the universe. This profound study was shared with all young and old in order to let them live a tension free, disease free,  peaceful and a spiritual life.

Guru Dingle Mei was one such Guru, who brought the ancient knowledge of Guru Padmasambhava from Tibet to the US, California and taught it there at the Institute of Mental Physics which is a very apt name!

Fortunately for us this was brought to India by some of the students of the Institute and is now being taught to us by Pratibimb, through its flagship programme “Breathe”.

meditation courses online

Again, this is also aptly named as it teaches the connection between breath and spirituality.

The meditation courses online cover Pranayam and 8 breathing exercises as well as meditation. These are spiritual breathing exercises which connect us to the prana energy existing within us. We are first taught how to empty our lungs completely before adequately filling them up again. Thus begins the process of being conscious of one’s breathing. We have always been taking our breath for granted. The exercises vary with modes of inhalation, exhalation, holding of the breath and proper postures of the body. The holding of the breath facilitates the removal of impurities in our blood vessels and body. When one holds one’s breath, it tries to find its way out and thus pushes the impurities which are forming blocks inside.

Proper breathing practices enhance one’s health, and also strengthen one’s mind.

Another means of strengthening one’s mind is meditation, which is also taught in Pratibimb’s “Breathe”. The rishis and sages who used to sit still on the mountains and underneath the trees, used to be engaged in meditation, which means going inwards in search of the meaning of life within themselves. “Breathe” familiarizes us with these best meditation techniques.

To start the meditation in the online meditation classes one needs to relax completely. Then we are instructed to watch our breath, travelling in and out of our nostrils. After which we are told to watch our thoughts without reacting to them, allowing them to just come and go. Gradually with the rhythmic breathing and our thoughts under control, we are taken through a guided meditation. This, if practiced regularly, succeeds in calming the mind. Proper practice of this will enable us to handle the stress and tensions of life and we soon look forward to spending that time with ourselves.

Once you have traversed the path from chaos to calm, you realise that Pratibimb’s teachings have decluttered the box of your mind, leaving place for joy, gratitude, happiness, peace and spirituality.
